Rubbermaid has entered the race to help you get organized outside. They have both the usual barn-like shed with doors and a roof high enough to stand under, and they have a horizontal shed, which is accessed through the top or the front. The kind of Rubbermaid shed you want depends on the items you need to store, and how easily you need to be able to get to them.

The Rubbermaid vertical storage shed comes in a simple closet like version and a full fledged building version. Which will work best for you depends on how big the things you need to store are, and how many of them there are. If it is just chemicals and hand tools, the closet version may be all you need. If there are machines involved, you are probably going to need the full shed. Both are made from sturdy, double-walled construction with leak-proof roof and impact resistant flooring. The full shed also has sky lights and windows to provide light inside the shed during the day. All have double doors to allow the fullest access possible to the contents of the shed, and can be locked to ensure the security of the contents.

For more specialized storage requirements, Rubbermaid has what they call horizontal sheds. In cases where all the equipment and materials you need to store are on the bottom half of a regular shed, you can get just the bottom half. Access is through lifting lids or a slide back lid and double doors on the front. This last arrangement is perfect for storing bicycles or just a mower in a minimum of space. Access is easy, and the contents are safe from the weather. The horizontal sheds can be locked to provide security to the contents as well.

For deck and patio storage, Rubbermaid has a series of storage benches, allowing you to store tools and chemicals out of sight and provide seating outdoors at the same time. Most of the deck storage units look like large coolers, but there is one specifically designed to look like a garden bench. You choice depends on what you need to store, how often the storage units will be used for seating and how you want the storage to look.

In all cases, the materials the storage units are made from ensure that there will be no maintenance required. No painting, no rust, no rot. No problems other than deciding which one you need and whether the no maintenance justifies the expense.

Be sure to check your property deed, city ordinances and neighborhood restrictions before you buy any shed or storage building, as there are places that do not allow them.
