For rooms that need to sleep more then one person, even if it is only occasionally, twin beds are frequently the choice of the house holder. Two beds means relative strangers do not have to share a bed, sharing being not welcome anymore in the West, at least. Twin beds also allow for a little more flexibility in arranging the furniture in the room than a full or queen size bed. And if push comes to shove and you have to sleep three in the room, you can get a twin over full bunk bed.

Twin beds are also more functional in that one twin bed with the right bed frame can have a trundle bed under it, for occasional use of under-bed storage. Adding side rails to a twin bed allows it to become a toddler bed, a secure stepping stone from crib to regular bed. Twin beds can be purchased as canopy beds or brass beds. The head and foot boards can be made of any durable material, or an upholstered head board can be made to match or coordinate with the drapes in the room.

When placed in a room, the twin beds are usually put so the head is against the wall and the beds are parallel. This is the motel look, and is perfectly suitable for a guest room. For a more fun or space-saving arrangement, place one of the beds against the wall. The pair need not be placed in the corner, although for many rooms, the size of the room dictates that this is necessary. An over-bed table can be made so that about half of one bed is covered by the table and the bed is only pulled out when it is needed. With bolster pillows, this arrangement can make a teenagers room more grown-up, providing sofa-type seating for friends.

Twin bed furniture usually comes with head boards and foot boards, but you can buy a twin bed frame for each bed and use upholstered head boards or use another piece of furniture (that doesn’t move easily) for the head board. The primary function of the head board is to keep the pillow on the bed. You could put the foot of the bed against the wall and use a dresser or chest of drawers at the outer end for the head board. Bunk beds can be arranged in an L-shape that allows one chest of drawers to be placed under the upper bunk, for a different room arrangement.

Twin beds in a bed room can be arranged in a number of ways, depending on the room size and traffic flow. Once the furniture is arranged, decorating a room with twin beds comes down to the linens. The most obvious choice for linens is two twin bed in a bag sets of linens, so the sheets on both beds are the same. Then matching comforter or bedspreads and coordinated curtains complete the soft surfaces of the room. Lighting fixtures of some kind, for task lighting if nothing else, and the room is ready for occupancy. Of course, much more can be added to the room, space allowing, but with the beds and linens, the room can fulfill its foremost function as a bed room with little else.
